How to Reset Admin Password on Hikvision IP Camera using Latest Version of SADP Tool | Step-by-Step Tutorial

In this blog post, we’ll guide you through the process of resetting the admin password of Hikvision IP cameras (both dome and bullet types) using the latest version of the SADP Tool. This method is ideal if email recovery or security questions are not configured on your cameras.

Preparing for the Reset

To begin, ensure your Hikvision IP camera (dome or bullet) and your PC/laptop are connected to the same local area network (LAN). This allows them to communicate with each other via the same router or network switch. Your PC or laptop should also have an active internet connection to download the SADP tool and send necessary information via email.

Powering the Camera:

  • Using Power over Ethernet (PoE): Connect the camera to a PoE switch, providing power and network connectivity through one Ethernet cable.
  • Without PoE: Power the camera using a DC power adapter and connect it to the LAN via an Ethernet cable.

Download and Install the SADP Tool

Visit the Hikvision website to download the latest version of the SADP Tool. On the support page, navigate to “Tools” and select the appropriate version (Windows or Mac). Download the tool and install it by following these steps:

  1. Locate the downloaded ZIP file in your downloads folder.
  2. Extract the file and run the setup.
  3. Right-click on the setup file and select “Run as Administrator” to ensure a smooth installation process.
  4. Follow the installation prompts, accept the license agreement, and choose the installation location.
  5. Complete the installation and launch the SADP Tool.

Detecting Your Hikvision Camera

Once the SADP Tool opens, it will automatically scan your local network and display all Hikvision devices. If your camera doesn’t appear:

  • Ensure both your camera and PC are on the same LAN.
  • Check network cables, power, and connection status.
  • You can also connect the camera directly to your PC’s LAN port for a direct connection, while keeping your internet connection active via Wi-Fi.

Resetting the Password

  1. Select your camera from the SADP Tool’s list.
  2. Click the “Forget Password” option, which opens a pop-up with password reset modes.
  3. Choose the “Export/Import Device Feature Code Mode.”
  4. Generate and export the QR code and save it to a folder on your PC.
  5. Take a photo of the camera’s serial number (located on the device label) and save it.

Sending a Reset Request to Hikvision Support

Compose an email to Hikvision support, attaching the QR code and the camera’s serial number. Use the appropriate support email address for your region, and include “Reset IP Camera Password” in the subject line.

Receive and Apply the Encrypt Key

After a few hours (depending on working hours), you will receive an email from Hikvision with an attached “Encrypt Key” file.

  1. In the SADP Tool, select “Import File” and choose the Encrypt Key file from your PC.
  2. Enter a new password for the camera. Make sure it’s strong and doesn’t contain “admin.”
  3. Confirm the password and click “Confirm.” You should see a success message.

If you encounter errors, try restarting the SADP Tool and re-importing the Encrypt Key file. After receiving the “Reset Password Succeeded” message, you can now access the camera with the new password.

Post-Reset Configuration

Once the reset is complete, you can install the camera at its designated location and configure it as needed. This method applies not only to IP bullet cameras but also to other Hikvision devices such as NVRs, DVRs, and dome IP cameras.
