How to Install an SD Card and Configure Recording Schedule for Hikvision IP Cameras
Step-by-step guide to installing an SD card and configuring a 24/7 recording schedule for your Hikvision IP camera using the iVMS-4200 client software:
Step 1: Install the SD Card
- Power Off the Camera: Before you begin installing the SD card, power off the camera to avoid any electrical damage.
- Locate the SD Card Slot: The SD card slot on most Hikvision cameras is located at the bottom or side. Refer to your specific camera’s manual for accurate location information.
- Remove the Protective Cover: Using a screwdriver, remove the protective cover (if applicable) around the SD card slot. Many Hikvision cameras are built with a cover to safeguard the SD card slot from dust and debris.
- Insert the SD Card: Carefully insert the SD card into the slot, making sure the metal contacts of the card face downward towards the camera’s connection points. It should click into place.
- Secure the Cover: Once the SD card is inserted, replace the cover and secure it with screws.
Step 2: Power On the Camera
- Reconnect Power: After installing the SD card, reconnect the power to the camera.
- Check Camera Status: Ensure the camera powers up correctly, and use the iVMS-4200 software to confirm that the camera is online.
Step 3: Access iVMS-4200 Client Software
- Open iVMS-4200: Launch the iVMS-4200 software on your computer. This software will allow you to configure and manage your Hikvision cameras.
- Add the Camera: If you haven’t added the camera to the software yet, click on the “Device Management” option, and add the camera by entering the camera’s IP address and login credentials.
Step 4: Configure the Time Settings
- Navigate to Time Settings: In the iVMS-4200 software, select the “Remote Configuration” option next to your camera’s listing. Then, go to “Basic Settings” and choose “Time Settings.”
- Set Date and Time: You can either manually set the date and time or synchronize it with your PC. Accurate time configuration is vital for proper recording and event tracking.
- Save Settings: After ensuring the date and time are correct, save your settings to avoid any discrepancies.
Step 5: Format the SD Card
- Go to Storage Settings: In the “Remote Configuration” menu, find the “Storage” option and click on it.
- Select the SD Card: Under the “HDD Management” section, locate your SD card. It will show up as “Uninitialized” if it hasn’t been formatted.
- Format the SD Card: Click on the “Format” button next to the SD card. This will initialize the card, making it ready for recording. Wait for the process to finish—this may take a few moments.
- Check Status: After formatting, the SD card status will change to “Normal,” and you should see the available space reflected.
Step 6: Configure the Recording Schedule
- Access the Schedule Settings: In the “Remote Configuration” window, navigate to the “Record Schedule” option under the “Storage” tab.
- Select Recording Mode: Choose the type of recording you want:
- Continuous Recording: This will record 24/7 without any interruptions.
- Motion Detection Recording: This will only record when the camera detects motion, saving storage.
- Set the Schedule:
- Drag the timeline across the days of the week to specify when you want recording to occur.
- For continuous recording, select “Continuous” and drag the schedule across all days.
- For motion-based recording, select “Motion Detection” and adjust the timeline accordingly.
- Save Your Settings: Once you’ve configured the schedule, click “Save” to apply the settings.
Step 7: Enable Overwriting
- Enable Overwrite: In the same “Storage” menu, ensure that the “Overwrite” option is enabled. This allows the camera to automatically overwrite the oldest footage when the SD card reaches its storage limit.
- Confirm: Click “Save” to ensure the overwrite feature is activated.
Step 8: View Recorded Footage
- Instant Playback: Right-click on the live stream from the camera in iVMS-4200, and select “Switch to Instant Playback.” You can then choose the desired time slot to view the recordings.
- Remote Playback: For more specific searches, go to the “Remote Playback” section, select the camera, and click on the calendar icon to choose a specific date. This will show you all available recordings from that day.
By following these steps, you can easily install an SD card and set up a 24/7 recording schedule for your Hikvision camera using iVMS-4200. You can choose between continuous or motion-triggered recording, depending on your needs. Additionally, enabling the overwrite feature ensures you never run out of storage.
