Welcome to TECH LOGICS! In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the process of connecting a CPPLUS HD analog camera to a Hikvision DVR equipped with video switchover technology. This feature allows the DVR to seamlessly switch between video formats such as CVI, TVI, AHD, and CVBS, ensuring compatibility with various camera types. Follow these steps to achieve optimal video and audio quality for your surveillance system.
Step 1: Connect the Camera and DVR
Start by powering on your Hikvision DVR. Connect the CPPLUS HD analog camera to the designated video input port on the DVR. Then, link a TV or monitor to the DVR to view the camera feed. This setup allows you to confirm that the camera is receiving power and transmitting video signals correctly. Ensure all physical connections are secure to prevent signal disruptions or loss.

Step 2: Access the DVR Interface
Using a mouse, log into the DVR interface with the ‘Admin’ account. Administrator access grants full control over camera settings, configurations, and format switchover options. Navigate through the menu to fine-tune the camera settings and ensure the system recognizes the camera’s signal type, optimizing overall performance.
Step 3: Verify Camera Compatibility
Confirm that your CPPLUS camera supports switchover technology across CVI, TVI, AHD, and CVBS formats. Not all cameras offer this feature, so check the camera’s specifications before proceeding. Compatibility ensures the DVR can automatically detect and switch formats, enabling seamless transitions and continuous recording for reliable surveillance.
Step 4: Address Video Quality Issues
When you view the camera feed in the live window, you may notice poor video quality or signal disturbances. This often occurs because the Hikvision DVR primarily supports TVI format input, while the CPPLUS camera defaults to CVI output. To resolve this, you’ll need to switch the camera’s video output from CVI to TVI using the camera’s On-Screen Display (OSD) menu.
Step 5: Adjust Camera Settings
From the DVR’s main interface, select the camera you want to adjust and maximize its view. Click the ‘PTZ’ control icon to access the camera’s advanced settings on the right side of the screen. Then, click the ‘Iris +’ icon to open the camera’s OSD menu, where you can modify the video signal settings.

Step 6: Switch to TVI Format
In the camera’s OSD Main Menu, you’ll see the current resolution set to CVI. To switch to TVI, use the PTZ up and down controller icons to scroll to the ‘Advanced’ section. Click the ‘Iris +’ icon to enter the ‘Advanced’ menu, then use the PTZ left and right icons to navigate to ‘Video type’ and select ‘TVI.’ Confirm the selection by clicking ‘Iris +’ again, and save the configuration by clicking ‘Iris +’ once more.

Step 7: Verify Improved Video Quality
After saving the settings, the camera’s output will switch from CVI to TVI, resulting in a clearer and more stable video stream. This adjustment ensures compatibility with the Hikvision DVR, significantly improving the video and audio quality for enhanced surveillance performance.
